Winter still has good all around fishing

Hi there, if your down here in the winter think about booking a trip on the right days fishing can be just as good as the summer and sometimes better. If you book your trip ahead I will pick the best day to venture offshore for some really good bottom fishing not to mention knowing where to hook up on some big sharks .The inshore fishing in mosquito lagoon gets good as well, big schools of redfish stack up in the flats and trout around sandholes and dropoff areas  along with blackdrum . A great choice of eating and game fish to be caught on a Daytona Beach fishing trip

Daytona Beach Fishing Charters

Daytona Beach fishing, or rather fishing the waters around it serves up some of the most impressive fish and also some of the best tasting fish anywhere, though these are often the same.

Blue and White Marlin are perhaps the most impressive looking fish that can easily be caught around Daytona, the best time to get these trophies is May though White Marlin can be found for much of the year if you know where to look.

Tuna are impressive fish as well, and taste great too of course.  There are a number of varieties of Tuna you may find on a Daytona Beach fishing trip. Black-fin and Yellow-fin Tuna are those you are most likely to come across though and are ideal for pole and line fishing.

If you want a real challenge and a trophy that will impress other keen fishermen especially, you may want to catch yourself some Atlantic Sailfish on your Daytona Beach Fishing trip. These are very tough to land, though finding them is possible all year round; again you may need to find out where you are need to go before heading out or go out with an experienced skipper.

Mahi Mahi and Swordfish are fairly impressive fish which can grow to quite a size though
most are a little smaller; they are good eating though and still well worth a picture with once you land them. The Mahi Mahi is also known as the Dolphinfish and has a unique

green skin with blue speckles and an impressive dorsal fin when fanned out.

Mackerel may not be as impressive but you can catch these all day and even more so at night when on a Daytona Beach fishing trip. These are great for eating and especially for barbequing. Sea Bass not least Black Sea Bass are great to eat as well and not cheap from local restaurants: bring some of your own back after a day on a Daytona Beach fishing trip.

The number of sharks around Daytona Beach are good but many are only small sharks, more impressive are the Mako sharks that have been known to attack humans. People fishing off Daytona Beach and nearby have reported 100 lb plus Mako Sharks a few times, though it is far from guaranteed that you will find one of these monsters on your first time out.

Barracudas are a good option to fish for as they are around all year, they are good for eating and look quite fearsome once you pluck them out, making for a good photo.

Though not as well known as many game fish around Florida the Wahoo can be one of the most impressive as a prize fish and for its wonderful flesh when you come to eat it. Being solitary fish though Wahoo are more likely to be caught by chance while fishing for other fish such as Tuna and Mahi Mahi. Once you do catch a Wahoo on your line the speed and strength with which it takes its first run may be enough to confirm what you are going to be trying to land and the difficulty makes them an even better trophy fish if you can manage it.

Fishing tips for a successful and enjoyable trip

If you’re going on a Daytona Beach fishing trip you are in for a great day, you do need to prepare though to make sure everything goes smoothly. These tips should make sure your Daytona Beach fishing trip sees you catch plenty of fish and also have a relaxing and enjoyable day as well.

So first of all tips for catching plenty of fish:

1. Know what fish you want to Catch

There is little use going out from Daytona Beach fishing without knowing what you are fishing for. Check what is around locally at the time of year you are fishing and then choose, you may also want to consider whether what you will be catching you can legally keep. If at the time of year you are fishing there are a lot of juveniles for a certain species be prepared to throw some back. Once you have chosen what to catch you can move on to the next three tips.

2. Know the best spots

Knowing where to fish for the fish you want is vital, you should at least know what type of waters they will be in at the time of year you are fishing. Off Daytona Beach fishing is good inshore for many species but you may have to go further out for certain fish such as Marlin. If you can get any knowledge from locals that is great but professional fishermen may keep the best spots to themselves, if you are hiring a boat the person hiring it out to you may be able to give you some advice.

3. Take the right bait

Again you need to know what you are fishing for first: then you can choose your bait. Think about what type of bait you have but also whether it is live. You may want to catch your own fresh live bait on your way out.

4. Have the right gear

Having the right gear is almost as important as the right bait, you may need to hire some if what you have isn’t suitable. If you are used to fresh water fishing then don’t assume your rod is going to be any use for Daytona Beach fishing except maybe off the end of a pier.

 5. Be in the right boat

This is important in terms of catching fish but even more important in terms of your comfort and safety. Always think about safety first and if you are going a long way out take a boat with navigational aids and safety aids plus maybe even a life raft.

 6. Stock up on supplies

This certainly includes food and drink, think about food that will last in the heat and also don’t just take beers, make sure you have plenty of water too. Always prepare for the worst, which could include a longer trip than you anticipate if you get stuck in bad weather or get lost. Make sure you include a first aid kit and if your boat has a cabin and you are going a long way out you may as well take a couple of sleeping bags just in case.

Daytona Beach Fishing threatened by economy and controls

Daytona Beach is of course strongly associated with motor sport but motor sport alone can’t support the entire economy of the city. Daytona Beach fishing and boat building along with related businesses are as much a part of Daytona Beach’s economy as tourism and motor sport are. Unfortunately fishing is having a tough time as an industry and it is having a knock on effect to the businesses that serve it.

There are a lot of different factors affecting Daytona Beach Fishing, not least the ability of fishing boats to actually fish. The restriction on commercial fishing mean that it is tough for Daytona beach fishing vessels to make a profit on trips as they may have to throw back a lot of the fish they catch where they are limited on overall quantities of fish, types of fish and the sizes of fish with juveniles having to be returned.

As for charter fishing for tourists that come to the city there is still demand and many people come to Daytona for the fantastic fishing in the area. Numbers of tourist are down though and many now want to spend less on fishing charters as the recession continues to affect people’s willingness or ability to spend. Demand falling will mean some charter fishing boats won’t survive and for the others tourism helps  keep businesses going for part of the year but the charter boats and commercial fishing boats aren’t usually parts of the same businesses. What is more all types of fishing businesses are suffering from the increases in costs, most importantly gas prices: this means that sometimes it is cheaper for a Fishing vessel to stay in port than go out if either the amount  that people are willing to pay for a fishing trip or the amount of fish they will be able to catch is too low.

Boat builders are suffering as well, rather than fleets increasing in size Daytona Beach fishing boats are being put up for sale and even then these vessels are struggling to sell. Boat builders who supplied fishing boats and charter boats to businesses that grew year on year have within a few years gone to almost no demand at all; even repairs and extras such as new engines and chandlery are less in demand as boats are used less and so get through less supplies.

While some businesses place the blame for decline in Daytona Beach fishing businesses on the economy and fuel prices others place the blame almost purely on the Fishing Council. Fishing for Snook, Red Snapper and Black Sea Bass has been limited and if caught they must be thrown back by pleasure fishermen, this means those on Daytona Beach fishing charters now can’t keep what they catch. To get to the best areas for other fish that can be kept means a longer trip or trips at certain times of the year limiting what charter fishing owners can sell as many people prefer a half day or even an hour or two fishing.
